ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has been elected the new speaker of the National Assembly following securing 199 votes out of a total of 291 votes cast, local media reported on Friday.
Now, newly elected members of National Assembly will elect Deputy Speaker of the house. Voting for the new Deputy Speaker of the House is underway. It added that the election for the office of prime minister of Pakistan will be held on Sunday.
Ghulam Mustafa Shah is the joint candidates of the allied parties for the slot of the speaker and deputy speaker, respectively. On the other hand, PTI-backed MNA Junaid Akbar is the candidate of the opposition for the slot of the deputy speaker.
