SAN JOSÉ, United States: Samsung introduced its latest Galaxy smartphones with new artificial intelligence features as the South Korean giant seeks to win back its spot as the world’s biggest phone seller from Apple.
T.M. Roh, the president of Samsung, expressed the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on the mobile industry during the launch event held in San Jose, California.
Roh highlighted the shift towards mobile devices becoming the primary hub for AI, with Samsung aspiring to lead in this evolution. The flagship S24 Ultra unveiled at the event, demonstrated advanced language translation capabilities for phone calls and texts in real-time. Samsung’s proprietary AI technology powers this on-device function, supporting 13 languages and providing an experience akin to having an interpreter in multilingual conversations.
Additionally, through a collaboration with Google, the S24 boasts an innovative search function using AI. Users can simply circle a phrase or image to initiate a search, eliminating the need for cumbersome copy-and-paste maneuvers between apps. AI enhancements extend to messaging, car systems, and camera capabilities, with features like recommending responses, handling tasks, and utilizing generative AI for background adjustments.
The Galaxy S24 series, featuring a titanium frame for improved durability, is set to start shipping on January 31, with the Ultra model priced at $1,299. The release comes shortly after industry data revealed Apple’s iPhone surpassed Samsung’s 12-year leadership, becoming the world’s best-selling smartphone in 2023. Samsung also teased a smart ring at the event, offering a sneak peek without disclosing specific details. —APP
