MULTAN, Pakistan: Pakistan’s right-arm spinner Sajid Khan reached a significant career milestone on Sunday during the third day of the first Test against the West Indies, becoming the third-fastest Pakistani bowler to claim 50 Test wickets.

Sajid dismissed West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite to achieve the feat in just his 11th Test match.

He now stands behind Yasir Shah, who holds the record for the fastest Pakistani bowler to reach 50 Test wickets in nine matches, and a group of bowlers including Waqar Younis, Shabbir Ahmed, Mohammad Asif, and Mohammad Abbas, who achieved the milestone in 10 matches.

The Multan Test saw Sajid shine with match-winning figures of 9-115, including a five-wicket haul in the second innings, as Pakistan defeated the West Indies by 127 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

Chasing a target of 251, the West Indies struggled from the outset. Sajid dismissed Brathwaite early for 12, reducing the visitors to 16/1.

He struck again shortly after, removing Keacy Carty for six and Kavem Hodge for a duck, leaving the visitors reeling at 26/3.

Despite a 41-run stand between Alick Athanaze and Tevin Imlach, Pakistan’s bowlers maintained control.

Abrar Ahmed delivered key breakthroughs, dismissing Imlach and tailender Gudakesh Motie for a golden duck.

Sajid capped his dominant spell by removing Athanaze, who top-scored with 55, while Abrar wrapped up the innings by taking the final wicket.

The West Indies were bowled out for just 123 runs, securing Pakistan a comfortable victory.

Earlier in the match, the West Indies’ Jomel Warrican delivered a career-best performance, claiming 7/32 to dismiss Pakistan for 157 in their second innings.
