KARACHI: Pakistan men’s cricket team captain Sahibzada Farhan has set his sights on winning the gold medal at the Asian Games, saying the squad is prepared to handle different conditions and focus on every match of the tournament.
Farhan, who was recently named captain for Pakistan’s Asian Games campaign, said leading the side was an honour and that he would assess the challenges of captaincy after the competition in Japan.
“Captaincy is an honour for me and my family. I have just been given the captaincy, so I cannot say yet whether it is difficult or easy. We will know that after the tournament,” he said.
Pakistan squad ready for Japan challenge
Farhan said the team had prepared for different weather and playing conditions in Japan, adding that players must adapt to situations beyond their control.
“The conditions in Japan are different. We practised in Pakistan keeping the conditions here in mind,” he said.

The right-handed batter added that there would be no extra pressure on him whether he played as captain or as a regular member of the team.
He urged his teammates to prioritise the team’s goals and remain ready for every challenge during the tournament.
Focus remains on gold medal goal
Farhan said Pakistan would not focus only on a possible match against India and would treat every fixture as important.
“Our entire focus is not just on the match against India. Every single match of the tournament is important for us,” he said.
He added that defeating strong teams would be necessary for Pakistan to achieve their gold medal ambition.
Pakistan’s Asian Games squad includes a mix of experienced players and new faces, with Farhan confident the team has enough international experience to compete.
