ISLAMABAD: Islamabad United opener Sahibzada Farhan is making the most of his opportunities in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10, and with each performance, he is strengthening his case for a recall to the national team.
Farhan, who was initially overlooked in this season’s PSL Player Draft, earned a spot in the Islamabad United squad off the back of an impressive domestic campaign.
Speaking to the media, he credited his standout showing in the National T20 Cup as the pivotal moment.
“I had performed well in the National T20 and was aware that there were a few places up for grabs,” he said. “Credit to Islamabad United for putting their faith in me and picking me.”
The right-hander finished as the top run-scorer in the National T20 Cup, amassing 605 runs in just seven innings at an extraordinary strike rate of 189.66 and an average of 121.
Persistent performance
He has carried that sublime form into the PSL, scoring 245 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 161.18, including both a century and a half-century.
“I’ve been delivering consistent performances for the past four years,” Farhan noted. “My four-day cricket form over the last two seasons has been excellent, and I’ve also done well in the recent One-Day tournament.”
“I’m now focusing specifically on improving my strike rate. If I’m given another opportunity to represent Pakistan, I want to demonstrate progress in that area.”
Farhan praised the positive environment at Islamabad United, expressing gratitude to the management and senior players for allowing him the freedom to play his natural game.
Positive team environment
“They’ve given me a free hand and the confidence to express myself. At times, Shadab Khan and Salman Ali Agha offer guidance in the nets, but I focus on executing the shots I’ve successfully played in past tournaments,” he added.
Farhan is no stranger to the United camp, having previously played for the franchise in 2018 and 2019. He said his return felt like a homecoming.
“Islamabad United isn’t a new side for me. I’ve played with them twice before and know Shadab both as a captain and as a teammate. I’m enjoying my time here and looking to refine my batting with each game,” he stated.
With United currently topping the PSL 10 points table—five wins from six fixtures—Farhan remains focused on the larger objective.
“We’re not taking our foot off the pedal after five wins. The tournament is far from over, and our focus is firmly on reaching the playoffs,” he concluded.
