ISLAMABAD: Mahmood Ahmed Saghar, Convener of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) Chapter, has expressed grave concern over the plight of illegally arrested Kashmiris lodged in various jails of India and the Indian illegally-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Kashmir media service reported that Mahmood Ahmed Saghar said thousands of Kashmiris, including APHC leaders, human rights defenders, activists, youth, journalists, and Ulema, have been detained in different jails of India and IIOJK for their political views.

He said that the jail officials were treating them inhumanely. Authorities intentionally prolong their illegal detention and do not present them in court on hearing dates of the fabricated cases registered against them.

According to the APHC-AJK Convener, there is neither a moral nor a legal reason to hold political leaders in prison for an extended period on baseless accusations brought by the Indian government. He pushed for their unrestricted and rapid release.

The Convener reaffirmed the Kashmiris’ willingness to carry on with the fight until it reached its logical conclusion to secure their right to self-determination. —APP
