ISLAMABAD: Mufti Muneebur Rehman, former Central Ruet- e-Hilal Committee Chairman, on Wednesday said the minimum amount for Sadqa-e-Fitr for this time would be Rs 320 per person.
As per Islamic Shariah, the fixed rate is based on staple food prices such as flour, raisins, cheese, dates, or barley.
The significance of Sadqa-e-Fitr lies in helping the needy ad poor people in society, particularly during the festive occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
How to fix Fitrana?
According to Mufti Muneeb, the market rate of 2.25 kilograms of flour for Fitrana is calculated as 320 rupees per head. Those who want to pay Fitrana equal to the rate of barley and dates should pay a minimum of 480 rupees and 2,800 rupees per head, respectively.
Similarly, those who wanted to pay Fitrana at the price of raisin should pay 6,400 rupees per head for first-class dates and 4,800 rupees per person for second-class raisins.
As per Shariah, a Muslim who possesses food in excess of his requirements must pay Sadqa-e-Fitr before the Eid prayers.
If the faithful is a breadwinner, he would also have to pay Sadqa-e-Fitr for his dependents, such as a spouse, children, dependent relatives, and servants.
The prominent religious scholar also advised the people to pay Fitrana before Eid-ul-Fitr so that they could also celebrate the festival. The most deserving persons for Sadqa-e-Fitr are close relatives, neighbors, and the poor.
He said that the real spirit of Fidya and Fitr is a 2-time meal of a needy person, so it is better to pay the meal cost of a hotel.
However, wealthier people should try to pay more to help the poor during skyrocketing inflation.
Suppose a person is unable to keep fast for the whole month. In that case, he or she should pay the Fidya of the whole month as compensation worth 9,600 rupees in proportionate to flour price, 14,400 rupees for barley, 84,000 rupees for dates, 192,000 rupees for raisin first class and 144,000 rupees for second class raisin.
