KARACHI: Pakistan’s Saba Rashid has made history by becoming the first Pakistani martial arts athlete to earn an official Guinness World Record in the nunchaku category.

The official certification of her record for executing the most “figure of eight” movements in one minute stands as a landmark national achievement and a personal victory against a leading international competitor.

Rashid’s record-breaking attempt saw her complete an astonishing 138 figure-of-eight rotations in 60 seconds, decisively surpassing the previous benchmark of 120. Guinness World Records has published the details on its official website and confirmed the approval via formal communication.

This achievement marks Rashid’s second world record overall. Previously, she had set a record in the elbow strike category by delivering 680 strikes in three minutes, an achievement where she also defeated India’s Kiran Uniyal, who holds the distinction of creating the highest number of world records for India.

Rashid’s success is part of a remarkable family legacy in world records. She is the wife of Rashid Naseem, Pakistan’s most prolific Guinness World Record holder. Their daughter, Fatima Naseem, holds eight world records, while their son set a record at just six years old. Rashid Naseem’s father has also set several records for the country.

In a statement, Saba Rashid emphasised that her latest accomplishment transcends personal glory. “This success is not only a personal achievement but a major milestone for women across Pakistan,” she said. Her record demonstrates exceptional skill, dedication, and resilience, inspiring a new generation of Pakistani athletes, particularly women, to pursue excellence on the global stage.
