FUKUSHIMA:  A group of South Korean experts has arrived in Japan to analyze the release of wastewater from the wrecked Fukushima nuclear power plant, Western media reported on Monday.

Three experts are going to visit the field office of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), opened last month at the nuclear plant.

IAEA monitoring safe discharge radioactive water

The IAEA office is monitoring the safe discharge of treated radioactive water into the Pacific Ocean.

Japan on Thursday announced to release water from the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant into the Pacific Ocean.

China has strongly denounced the plan of Japan.  Japan’s fishing groups also feared the release of water could harm marine life.

The South Korean experts include officials from the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety, who were part of a team that visited the plant in May.

It is not declared that for how long the experts would stay at the plant. The duration of their stay would be decided after consultations with the IAEA.

Earlier, the South Korean majority opposition political party and civil groups began a protest demonstration against Tokyo’s plan.

In a statement, Hong Kong CEO John Lee said the discharge was “irresponsible” adding the authorities in the city would impose a ban on the import of seaweed from Japan.
