Rwandan Foreign Minister Arrives in Islamabad on Official Visit

ISLAMABAD: Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ambassador Olivier Jean Patrick Nduhungirehe arrived in Islamabad on Sunday for his first official visit to Pakistan, marking a significant step in strengthening diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Upon arrival at Islamabad International Airport, Ambassador Nduhungirehe was warmly received by Director General for Africa at Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hasnain Yousaf.

The Rwandan High Commissioner to Pakistan and other senior officials of the Foreign Office were also present on the occasion to receive the visiting dignitary.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Rwandan Foreign Minister is visiting Pakistan at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

The visit is part of Islamabad’s broader strategy to enhance engagement with African nations under its “Engage Africa” policy framework.

During his stay, Ambassador Nduhungirehe will hold formal talks with Pakistan’s Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and meet with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chairman Senate Yousaf Raza Gillani.

The Rwandan Foreign Minister is also scheduled to engage with key federal ministers to explore opportunities for bilateral cooperation across various sectors.

Highlighting the growing diplomatic ties, the Rwandan Foreign Minister will formally inaugurate the High Commission of the Republic of Rwanda in Islamabad.

The inauguration ceremony will be attended by senior government officials from both countries, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives of the business community.

“This visit marks a significant milestone in the strengthening of diplomatic ties between the two nations,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, adding that it would open up avenues of cooperation and deepen collaboration in areas of mutual interest.

According to diplomatic sources cited by local media, the visit also includes the signing of multiple memoranda of understanding (MoUs) to bolster bilateral engagement in trade, investment, and development sectors.

This is the first visit by a Rwandan Foreign Minister to Pakistan following the establishment of diplomatic missions in Kigali and Islamabad.
