MOSCOW, Russia: Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) reported on Monday that it had intercepted an attempt by Ukrainian intelligence to organize the hijacking of a Russian Tu-22M3 strategic bomber.

According to the FSB, Ukrainian operatives tried to recruit a Russian military pilot with promises of a monetary reward and Italian citizenship to fly the bomber to Ukraine.

The FSB’s statement highlighted that Russian forces used intelligence gathered during the operation to target the Ozerne airfield in northwestern Ukraine’s Zhytomyr region.

Details regarding the timing of the operation and the subsequent strikes on the airfield were not immediately clear. There has been no immediate comment from Ukraine regarding these allegations.
