MOSCOW: The FSB state security service of Russia on Friday claimed its officers had killed a saboteur who had been recruited by Ukraine.
It said the saboteur was planning to target a fuel terminal in northwestern Russia with explosives.
The FSB in a statement said the man was a Russian citizen recruited by Ukraine’s military intelligence to conduct the attack in the Leningrad region, and that he had been killed during exchange of fire with security agents.
The FSB said the man had entered Russia from Lithuania in March after getting training there.
Head of the Lithuanian National Crisis Management Center, Vilmantas Vitkauskas, denied the Russian allegation.
He said Russia has been systematically carrying out disinformation campaigns and provocations for a long time in order to increase tensions among societies and allies and to hid its aggressive designs.
He went on to say the disinformation spread by the FSB is an important matter adding that one of the objectives of such aggressive actions is to influence Lithuania’s support for Ukraine.
Ukraine has not made any comment on the matter.
