KYIV: Russian strikes on Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky’s hometown early Tuesday killed 10 people, as Moscow claimed to have captured Western armored vehicles from Kyiv’s forces.
The strikes blasted into a five-story apartment building in the central city of Kryvyi Rig overnight, sending smoke rising from the debris-strewn housing block, Reuters said.
According to Oleksandr Vilkul, the head of the city’s military administration, ten people have died. One is buried in the rubble. Twenty-eight people suffered injuries and 12 of them are in medium, critical, or very serious condition in city hospitals. He also stated that rescue efforts are ongoing.
Russian forces
After the strikes, Zelensky declared that Russian forces were fighting a war against “residential buildings, ordinary cities, and people.” He promised Ukrainians that those responsible would face consequences. Terrorists will never be forgiven, he added in a social media message, and they will be held accountable for every missile they shoot.
Air raid sirens had previously sounded across Ukraine when the capital Kyiv and the northeastern city of Kharkiv were both targeted by missile and drone attacks. Russia launched 14 cruise missiles and four Iranian-made drones overnight, according to Ukraine’s air force, with 10 missiles and one drone intercepted.
