KYIV: At least five people have been killed in two Russian missile strikes on a residential complex in the town of Pokrovsk, Western media reported on Monday.
The AFP said that Ukrainian officials have confirmed that 31 civilians were also injured in the attack.
Igor Klymenko, Ukraine’s minister of internal affairs in his statement on social media said that five people were dead and 31 injured in two strikes on a residential building in Pokrovsk.
He said the first strike killed four civilians while an official from the emergency services was killed in the second strike.
Pokrovsk lies about 70km (43 miles) northwest of Donetsk city, which is under the control of Russian forces.
Meanwhile, Pavlo Krylenko, the head of the Donetsk region, has also stated the strikes damaged two presidential buildings, a hotel, shops, and administrative buildings.
Russian Strikes in Ukraine Kill Five Civilians, injure 31
Russia on Monday announced that its military forces have made significant territorial gains in Kupiansk front in northeast Ukraine, advancing approximately three kilometers (about two miles) over the past three days.
Amid escalating tensions, Russia recently conducted multiple waves of attacks on Ukraine, while Ukrainian forces targeted bridges within their occupied territories on the preceding Sunday.
Diplomatic efforts are underway to end the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine. In this regard, international talks were held in Saudi Arabia to resolve the Ukraine crisis peacefully.

Over 40 countries participated in the Jeddah talks, which concluded on Sunday. Notable participants included China, India, the United States, and various European nations. However, Russia was absent from the discussions.
In May, President Zelensky also attended Arab summit in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
President Zelensky welcomed the wide representation of nations in the Jeddah dialogue, emphasizing the importance of finding a settlement to issues like food security, which had affected millions of people worldwide due to the increase in food prices triggered by the conflict.
