MOSCOW: Russia’s intelligence chief said on Tuesday that the pilot who defected to Ukraine with a military helicopter and was allegedly shot dead in Spain last week was a “moral corpse”.
Maxim Kuzminov made headlines when he flew his Mi-8 helicopter into Ukraine in August as an act of defiance against Russia’s military offensive.
According to reports in Spanish media, Kuzminov was discovered shot dead in the southern town of Villajoyosa last week. He had relocated there after obtaining Ukrainian citizenship for defecting.
A spokesperson for Ukraine’s primary intelligence agency later confirmed Kuzminov’s death without providing additional details, as reported by Ukrainian media.
