KYIV: Tragedy struck Ukraine on Wednesday as at least five individuals lost their lives in Russian missile strikes targeting several cities, with the capital Kyiv bearing a significant brunt.
“According to updated data, as of this minute, four people died as a result of a rocket attack in the capital. Forty were injured,” shared Serhiy Popko, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, via Telegram.
Popko detailed that the missile strikes triggered a fire in a multi-storey residential building, leading to the evacuation of 52 individuals, and also hit a service station in Kyiv’s southwestern Holosiivskyi district.
The strikes mark the third such incident since the beginning of the year, with air raid alarms blaring across Kyiv for nearly three hours, added Popko.
Meanwhile, in Mykolaiv city, Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych confirmed the death of an individual who succumbed to injuries while in intensive care.
Reacting to the devastating strikes, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed solidarity with the affected families and vowed a firm response against Russia.
“My condolences to all those who have lost family and friends. We will certainly respond to Russia — terrorists will always feel the consequences of their actions,” Zelenskyy asserted.
Earlier in the day, Russia’s Defence Ministry declared launching a coordinated strike targeting military-industrial complexes in Ukraine, claiming to have hit all intended targets using precision air and sea-based weaponry.
The missile strikes underscore escalating tensions between Ukraine and Russia, further intensifying concerns over regional stability and civilian safety.
