MOSCOW: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has urged for a broader representation of Asian, African, and Latin American countries in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to counter what he perceives as Western domination of global affairs.

Speaking at a news briefing on Friday, Lavrov emphasized the need to break away from Western rules and provide greater voice and influence to a majority of the world.

Lavrov stated, “A majority of the world does not want to live according to Western rules,” highlighting the desire of many nations to have a more inclusive and equitable global governance structure. He expressed the view that expanding the UNSC to include countries from Asia, Africa, and Latin America would better reflect the diverse perspectives and interests of nations worldwide.

Russia Alleges West of Hindering Moscow and China from Acting Independently

Furthermore, Lavrov reiterated Moscow’s longstanding allegation that the West, particularly the United States, aims to hinder Russia and China from acting independently in a multipolar world. He suggested that Western powers seek to curtail the autonomy of Russia and China and prevent the emergence of a truly multipolar global order.

The call for diversification of the UNSC aligns with Russia’s longstanding stance on the need for a more balanced representation of nations in international decision-making processes. Russia has frequently criticized what it perceives as Western dominance and has advocated for a multipolar world order where a wider range of countries have a say in shaping global affairs.
