Russian Forces Pushing Towards Two Towns in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia Region

ISLAMABAD: Russian troops are pushing towards to towns Zaporizhzhia region of Ukraine, where fighting intensified this week after months of a stagnant front.

According to Russian state media, a Russian-installed official in the area Vladimir Rogov said that offensive activities were concentrated around 2 towns Orikhiv and Hulyaipole.

He was quoted as saying in media reports that the front was mobile, particularly in two directions, Hulyaipole and Orikhiv. An active fight was underway in these areas.

The Russian military later claimed for a second day in a row that it had more advantageous positions and lines after operations in Zaporizhzhia.

It claimed to have targeted Ukrainian positions in Lezhyno village, near the regional capital of Zaporizhzhia, which has not fallen to Ukrainian troops.

However, AFP could not confirm the claims.

The Ukrainian military said in its daily report on Sunday that more than fifteen settlements were affected by artillery fire in Zaporizhzhia.

Russia claims it annexed Zaporizhzhia region

Russia claims to have annexed the region along with 3 other Ukrainian parts, but doesn’t control it entirely.

While Russia controls large areas in the southern part of the region, its main city Zaporizhzhia and northern areas did not fall to its troops.

Moscow has vowed to push Ukrainian troops out of them.
