MOSCOW: The Russian military received weapons systems that have successfully downed 24 Ukrainian military aircraft in the past several days, as stated by Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu on Wednesday.
Shoigu was conducting an inspection at the command post of Russia’s battlegroup East in the South Donetsk area and heard reports on the prevailing situation, state news agency TASS reported.
The minister said the Ukrainian Air Force had suffered heavy losses among combat aircraft over the past week. “We have received systems that have downed 24 [Ukrainian] aircraft in the last five days,” Shoigu remarked.
Furthermore, the commander of Russia’s battlegroup East Andrey Kuzmenko briefed Shoigu on the establishment of regular UAV operational units and their equipment with FPV drones.

“In his report, Lieutenant General Andrey Kuzmenko, commander of Russia’s battlegroup East, reported on the execution of the Russian Defence Minister’s directive to form regular UAV units, their staffing with trained specialists, as well as the provision of all units with unmanned combat and reconnaissance systems, including FPV drones,” the Russian defence ministry said in a statement.
