Russian Federal Assembly’s Speaker Matviyenko Arrives in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Ms. Valentina Matviyenko, arrived in Islamabad on Sunday for a high-level, three-day visit aimed at strengthening Pakistan-Russia ties.

Invited by Pakistan’s Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, Matviyenko leads a high-level Russian delegation, including Federation Council of the Federal Assembly members.

Upon arrival at Noor Khan Airbase, Ms. Matviyenko and her delegation were warmly received by Pakistan’s Senate Deputy Chairman Syedaal Khan Nasar and Senator Bushra Anjum Butt.

During the visit, Ms. Matviyenko and her delegation are scheduled to hold meetings with key Pakistani leaders, including President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani.

A highlight of her visit will be an address to the Pakistani Senate’s special session, underscoring the emphasis on deepening parliamentary cooperation.

The visit is expected to further strengthen the diplomatic and parliamentary ties between Pakistan and Russia. The visit will further strengthen Pakistan-Russia relations.

These high-profile meetings will focus on enhancing mutual cooperation in Parliamentary diplomacy, cultural exchange, and key areas of bilateral interest.
