KYIV: A Russian drone attack in Ukraine’s northern Chernigiv region on Thursday killed three persons, including a young child, as confirmed by Ukrainian authorities. The incident occurred when Russian drones targeted a gas truck delivering fuel to homes in a border village.
According to Ukraine’s national police force, the strike caused the gas truck to explode, leading to significant fires that engulfed nearby residential buildings. “The truck exploded and residential buildings caught fire,” the police stated in a Telegram message.
Among the deceased was a child born in 2018. In addition to the fatalities, four others sustained injuries and were hospitalized, including two children aged four and 13. The regional governor, Vyacheslav Chaus, reported that the conditions of the injured children are serious.
Images shared by the police showed the aftermath of the attack, showing a charred gas truck lying on the side of a village track, with nearby homes damaged and gardens ablaze.
The Ukrainian military said that three first-person view (FPV) drones were deployed in this assault. FPV drones are remotely operated and provide real-time video feeds to their operators.
The Chernigiv region has previously experienced military incursions, having been occupied by Russian forces early in the conflict that erupted with the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The area has remained a focal point of hostilities as both sides continue to engage in aerial and ground assaults.
