MOSSCOW: Defence Ministry of Russia has said that its forces had destroyed a Ukrainian boat attempting to attack the historical Crimean bridge, western media reported on Saturday.
The bridge, built in 2018, connects Crimean Peninsula to the Russian mainland. Russia occupied and annexed Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine after four years. The area has been subject to repeated attacks during the 18-month Russia-Ukraine war.
The war between Russia and Ukraine has seen changing dynamics, with Ukrainian forces making some advances in territories like Kherson and Kharkiv during their counteroffensive.
However, Russian forces have now taken strong positions, leading to intense fighting in key areas on the eastern and southern fronts.
Earlier Russian defense minister Sergei Shoigu had said that the resources of Ukraine’s armed forces have been almost consumed. The ongoing developments highlight the complex geopolitical landscape in the region.
