ISLAMABAD: Russian ambassador to the United States (US) said that Washington is carrying out a “proxy war” against Moscow, and the risk of a “clash” between the two countries is “high.”
“Today, no one hides the true objectives of the White House policy towards Russia. On all Television channels, political commentators and analysts talk about the need to escalate the US proxy war against Russia,” Antonov said in an interview with the Russian state media organization TASS published Friday.
“Let me remind you that a proxy war means an agent’s war, a war by proxy. This is what the US is doing on Ukrainian territory,” he maintained.
“We stress that the risk of a clash between the two major world powers, the United States and Russia, is high.”
Russia will continue to avoid clash: Ambassador
Russia will continue “to make efforts to ensure that Moscow’s concerns about the security of our nation are not ignored but are heard with the chances of working together to address them,” the ambassador said.
Antonov also said that the dialogue between Washington and Moscow is presently in an “ice age” state.
“The Russian mission in the US is still forced to work in an atmosphere of mistrust and hostility,” Antonov added.
Antonov also said that Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to Washington demonstrates that neither US nor Ukraine “is ready for peace in the region.”
“Zelensky’s visit here, the conversations in the US showed that neither Kyiv nor the administration is ready for peace,” the ambassador said. “The focus is on war, on the death of troops, on further tying the Ukrainian regime to the needs of the US.”
