MOSCOW: In response to Ukraine’s announcement of receiving shipments of US Abrams battle tanks, Russia said on Tuesday that these tanks would not alter the course of the ongoing conflict and predicted that they would “burn” in the course of the offensive.

Kyiv had made public on Monday that it had received deliveries of US Abrams tanks, a development aimed at bolstering its military forces in their efforts to breach heavily-fortified Russian defensive lines.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov addressed reporters during a briefing, asserting, “All this can in no way affect the essence of the special military operation, its outcome. There is no panacea, no single weapon that can change the balance of power on the battlefield.” Peskov reiterated a familiar stance taken by the Kremlin regarding Western weaponry, stating, “They too will burn.”

Ukraine Seeking Additional Western Military Assistance

Ukraine has been actively seeking additional Western military assistance, including longer-range missiles, to enhance its capabilities in breaking through Russian positions and launching operations deep within Russian-controlled territories.

At the beginning of the year, Washington pledged to provide 31 Abrams tanks to Kyiv as part of more than $43 billion in security assistance that the United States has committed to Ukraine since the conflict’s inception.

Russia has strongly criticized the successive shipments of weaponry to Ukraine, contending that such deliveries only serve to prolong the ongoing conflict, which has persisted for an extended period and continues to be a focal point of international concern.
