MOSCOW: Russian authorities have urged residents of an area on the Ukraine border to evacuate their homes as shelling from Ukraine intensifies.
The district of Shebekino in the western Belgorod region, which lies on the border with Ukraine, has witnessed daily shelling that has resulted in the deaths of several civilians and forced villagers to flee their homes.
Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of the Belgorod region, called on residents to cooperate with authorities and temporarily evacuate the area.
In a message on Telegram, Gladkov stated, “I ask that in the villages of, first of all, the Shebekino district that has been shelled, to listen to the position of authorities and leave — temporarily leave — their homes.” He emphasized the importance of safeguarding lives and the lives of loved ones.
Ukraine Shelling in Belgorod
Gladkov also reported that it had been another turbulent night in the district, with significant damage inflicted. His statement followed the death of two women in border villages due to shelling. Currently, “more than 4,000 people” from border areas are residing in temporary housing within the Belgorod region.
To ensure the safety of minors in border villages and the children of mobilized soldiers involved in the conflict in Ukraine, authorities announced that they would transport them to youth camps on Sunday.
