Russia Says West ‘Responsible’ for Death of Russian War Reporter in Ukraine

MOSCOW:  Russia said on Saturday that the West was ‘responsible’ for the death of a Russian journalist in Ukraine.

The death of the journalist in Ukraine was “a heinous crime” carried out by Western powers and Ukraine, Russia’s ministry for foreign affairs said, vowing a “reply” against those to blame.

In a statement, the Russian Ministry for foreign affairs said, “Everything shows that the assault on the group of journalists was not carried out accidentally”.

It maintained “The competent global organizations prefer, as before in such matters, to turn a blind eye to this terrible crime”,

Earlier, a Russian war journalist was killed and three were injured on Saturday. Russian Ministry for Defence said the injured journalists were evacuated from the battleground after coming under fire in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region. It added Rostislav Zhuravlev was killed in the attack.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces have hit the Russian border area of Zhuravlevka in the western Belgorod region with cluster bombs on Friday, the Belgorod governor claimed on Saturday.

Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said, “In the Belgorod area, twenty-one artillery shells and 3 cluster munitions from a multiple rocket launcher were fired by the Ukrainian troops at the village of Zhuravlevka,”.
