MOSCOW, Russia: Russia’s security services Friday said they had arrested three people from “a Central Asian country” who were planning an attack in the south of the country.
A statement issued by the FSB said that it had “put an end to the terrorist activities of three nationals from a Central Asian country who were planning to commit a terrorist act by blowing up a device in a public place in the Stavropol region” in the North Caucasus region of southern Russia, the news agencies reported. The Stavropol region borders wth Dagestan and Chechnya among other regions.
Russian television showed images of several persons in custody of the FSB agents.
The ingredients for an improvised explosive device (IED) and chemical substances were also found at the home of one of the suspects, the Ria Novosti news agency claimed.
The claim came a week after last Friday’s mass killings at the Crocus City concert hall on the outskirts of Moscow. At least 144 people were killed in the attack.
