MOSCOW: In 1976, Russia sent its lunar mission but coming Friday, it is planning again to launch Luna-25 for moon after multiple delays.
Roscosmos, the Russian Space Agency sated that it would be early hours on Friday for the launch.
It is nearly half a century and Russia who pioneered in space programme wants to take its role back.
The new impetus to the Roscosmos is coming owing to Chinese interest and President Vladimir Putin’s invasion to Ukraine resulted in severing ties with the west.
According to engineers in Roscosmos, a Soyuz Rocket is prepared at Vostochny cosmodrome for the launch.
The Luna-25 is prepared to conduct scientific research after making a soft landing at the moon besides taking soil samples.
The space vehicle Luna-25 weighs 800 kilos and is likely to make the landing in south side (South Pole) of the moon as the earlier landings on the moon were in the middle (Equator).
The Russian space vehicle is expected to take five days in making to the lunar south pole.
The invasion on Ukraine from Russians resulted in European Space Agency backing away from earlier commitment of the launch that was to followed by Luna 26 and Luna 27 mission to space.
Moscow despite the setback from the European side went ahead with the programme and Vladmir Putin is on record stating Russia put the first man on moon in 1961 despite sanctions and we will continue to develop our space programme.
Yuri Borisov who head the Roscosmos stated the launch on the south pole of the moon has never been done and it’s a high risk.
Immaculate calculation has been done by the Russians prior to the launch and for people safety, the evacuation has been planned in village Shakhtinsky in Khabarovsk where the boosters have been expected to fall.
The Russian space programme has set unprecedented landmarks launching the first man made satellite Sputnik in 1957 followed by Lyca a dog sent in the orbit. Yuri Gagarin was the first man on the moon followed by Valentina Tereshkova the first women.
The latest launch planned by Russia after the Soviet era is marking a new beginning as the other leading the space and making waves are United States and China.
