MOSCOW: Russia has formally requested a meeting of the UN Security Council to address concerns related to the supply of Western weapons to Ukraine, according to information from a source within the world organization reported by TASS on Friday.

The meeting, scheduled for January 22, will focus on the alleged supply of Western weapons to Ukraine and is expected to provide a platform for Russia to address its concerns and present its perspective on the matter.

This move follows a previous request by Western countries for a UN Security Council meeting on January 10, where the focus was on purported arms supplies to Russia attributed to North Korea. The diplomatic exchanges highlight the ongoing tensions and differing narratives surrounding military-technical cooperation between nations.

Russia has consistently refuted accusations of illegal military-technical cooperation with North Korea, emphasizing that the claims made by Western countries lack substantiation. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has reiterated that the allegations are unfounded.

The upcoming UN Security Council meeting on Western weapons supplies to Ukraine indicates the escalating nature of geopolitical tensions and the desire of involved parties to address these concerns within the framework of international diplomatic forums. It also underscores the importance of multilateral platforms like the UN Security Council in managing and resolving global disputes.
