MOSCOW: The Kremlin on Wednesday dismissed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s talks proposal to end the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, and said Russia would continue its “special military operation” in Ukraine. The response came as Zelenskiy outlined a broad plan aimed at resolving the war and pressed for increased support from the United States.

On Tuesday, Zelenskiy said that he intends to present his peace plan to US President Joe Biden and his potential successors. Although the Ukrainian leader did not disclose specific details, he mentioned that the plan includes both military and non-military components.

Zelenskiy highlighted a recent Ukrainian incursion into Russia’s Kursk region, which began three weeks ago, as part of the broader strategy. He also emphasized that the plan would involve economic and diplomatic efforts designed to pressure Russia into ending the conflict.

Despite Zelenskiy’s initiative, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that Russia remains resolute in its military objectives. “This is not the first time that we have heard such statements from representatives of the Kyiv regime,” Peskov said during a press briefing. “We are aware of the nature of this Kyiv regime. We are continuing our special military operation and will achieve all of our goals.”

On August 6, Ukraine launched an offensive in the Kursk region of Russia. Meanwhile, Russia continued attacks in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine.
