MOSCOW: Russia has strongly refuted a statement by Ukraine’s highest-ranking military official claiming that the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which has persisted for nearly two years, had come to a deadlock.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, addressing reporters, stated, “No, it has not reached a stalemate.” He went on to say, “Russia is diligently executing the special military operation, and all the objectives that have been set must be achieved.” Peskov used the term “special military operation” to describe Russia’s full-scale military intervention in Ukraine.
This response came in reaction to an interview with Ukraine’s General Valery Zaluzhny in British media, where he indicated that both sides had encountered an impasse along the extensive frontline.
Zaluzhny drew a historical parallel, stating, “Just as in the First World War, we have reached a technological level that places us in a stalemate.” He added, “There will likely be no profound and dramatic breakthrough.”
Earlier this year, Ukrainian forces initiated a counteroffensive against well-entrenched Russian positions but made only limited territorial gains.
