MOSCOW: Russia has ruled out the possibility of nuclear negotiations with the United States, citing Washington’s stance on NATO expansion, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday.

Zakharova stated, “We see no point in dialogue with Washington without respect for Russia’s fundamental interests. The main issue is NATO’s expansion into post-Soviet territories, which threatens our collective security.”

Moreover, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted on Tuesday that Russia will not engage in discussions about signing a new treaty to replace the existing agreement on strategic nuclear weapons, which is set to expire in 2026. He emphasized the need for any future agreements to be broadened to include other states.
