MOSCOW: Russia said on Wednesday it had neutralised seventeen Ukrainian drones as Kyiv targeted a fuel depot in the southern city of Rostov, home to Moscow’s military headquarters for its operation in Ukraine.

In a statement, the defence ministry asserted that overnight, numerous attempts by the Kyiv regime to execute terrorist acts against Russian targets were thwarted. Russian aerial defense systems intercepted and eliminated 17 drones across various border regions, alongside intercepting and destroying 10 ATACMS missiles over Crimea, the annexed peninsula.

According to local governor Vasily Golubev, two drones triggered explosions at a Rostov fuel depot, though no casualties or fires ensued. The incident underscores ongoing tensions between the two nations, with Ukraine justifying such actions as responses to alleged Russian aggression, particularly towards energy facilities vital for Russian military operations.

After enduring extensive damage within its borders from prolonged bombardments, Ukraine has pledged to retaliate on Russian territory, marking an escalation in the conflict between the two neighbouring states.
