MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin has abolished a flight ban and visa regime with Georgia, which Russia fought a brief war against in 2008, the Kremlin said on Wednesday.

Putin, in a decree issued on Wednesday, announced a 90-day visa-free regime for Georgian citizens beginning on May 15. Another decree resumed aviation travel between Russia and Georgia.

In response to anti-Moscow rallies in Georgia, Russia banned travel with the country in 2019.

Claims of Georgia’s ruling party

Georgia’s ruling party claims it is dedicated to Georgia’s EU and NATO membership bids, which are inscribed in the constitution and backed by 80 percent of the public, according to opinion polls.

The Kremlin’s restrictions on Georgia come as the crisis between Russia and Ukraine enters its second year.
