KYIV, Ukraine: Russia launched a major missile attack on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, early Monday, injuring at least two people, causing fires, and damaging infrastructure, according to Ukrainian officials.

The city’s military administration reported that Ukrainian air defence units successfully intercepted and destroyed over 10 cruise missiles and nearly 10 ballistic missiles. However, falling debris from the downed missiles sparked fires and caused significant damage.

The missile strikes triggered air raid alerts across Ukraine for nearly two hours, with the skies declared clear by 03:30 GMT. In response, neighboring NATO member Poland activated its own aircraft, along with allied forces, to protect its airspace during the assault.

In Kyiv, a boiler house at a water plant and the entrance to a metro station, also used as a bomb shelter, were partially damaged in the Svyatoshynskyi district, known for its universities and schools.

Additionally, cars were set on fire throughout the city, and a non-residential building in the Shevchenkivskyi district was damaged. Emergency services were dispatched to multiple districts, including Solomyanskyi, Holosiivskyi, and Svyatoshynskyi, where missile debris had fallen.

The attack followed a similar assault a week earlier when Moscow launched over 200 missiles and drones across Ukraine, targeting energy facilities and resulting in several civilian casualties. While Russia continues to deny targeting civilians, the war, now in its 30th month, shows no signs of abating, with repeated strikes causing widespread damage and suffering across Ukraine.
