ISLAMABAD: Russia has expressed its interest to be a part of mega hydro-power projects like Diamer, Dasu, and Bhasha in Pakistan, and in providing electro-mechanical machinery to the country.
Russia offered to provide the machinery during the Inter-Governmental Commission meeting held in Islamabad on January 18 to 20.
Welcoming Russia’s inclination towards help in the construction of the projects, Pakistan said the stage 2 of the Dasu project will start no earlier than 2026.
The Russia has also expressed interest in grid facilities, and Pakistan has asked for help in developing supervisory control and data acquisition systems (SCADA) and distribution system automation.
Russia seeks information about projects
Russia has requested information about the projects under consideration for development under the Government-to-Government mode, which includes, the Thakot 1, 2, and 3 Hydro-power projects; the Kari-Mashkur hydro-power project; and the Shogo-Sin hydro-power project ; Overhead Transmission Line from Drosh to Chakdara, with two 500 Kilo Vatt grid stations at both ends; and Pafian hydro-power project.
Pakistan has also shared information and plans for the construction and modernisation of local and Thar coal-based new units in Lakhra and Jamshoro.
