Moscow: Russia has released new history books ahead of the academic year glorifying Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Western media reported that the Kremlin’s move to rewrite history and shape young minds has drawn widespread criticism both domestically and internationally.
The move comes as Russia’s military advances continue in Ukraine and tensions with Western nations remain there.
Russia’s Educational Minister Sergei Kravtsov defending the textbooks said they aim to convey the goals of the Ukraine war and promote demilitarisation and de-nazification.
However, critics believed that the recent propaganda is aimed to depict Russia’s actions in a positive manner and bring a distorted history to young minds.
Russia Glorifies Ukraine War in New Textbooks
Prominent historians have expressed their concerns, questioning the validity of the Ukraine war content in the books and the motives behind such a rapid production process.
The textbooks include sections terming Russian soldiers as “peacekeepers” during the annexation of Crimea in 2014 and downplaying the impact of Western sanctions.
