Russia Gas Pipeline Kills Three

ISLAMABAD: A fire at a Russian gas pipeline that sends supplies to Europe after passing through Ukraine killed three people on Tuesday, the region’s governor briefed the state-run television.

Social media was awash with image footage and showed a massive ball of fire that could be seen billowing over buildings that were one to two stories high while the village itself was covered in snow.

Oleg Nikolayev said that as per initial data, at the site, four people were working, of whom three died when suddenly gas ignited. The person, a driver, who survived, is in a state of shock.

Pipeline supplies gas to Europe

According to emergency services, the fire had been extinguished. The incident took place near the Yambakhtino village, which is about 600 kilometers east of Moscow.

The emergency services’ local branch said the incident took place during repair work. The pipeline is known as the Brotherhood pipeline and carries gas from Urengoy to Uzhgorod via Pomary.

The Brotherhood pipeline is one of the main gas lines that supplies Russian gas to Europe.
