MOSCOW, Russia: Russia has announced plans to increase its active military personnel to 1.5 million, citing growing threats along its borders.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov explained that this decision stems from perceived hostility from Western nations and instability in the East.

Tensions between Russia and the West have heightened, particularly following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, leading to increased military activity and fortified defenses across Europe.

The move signals Russia’s intent to bolster its military capabilities in response to these external pressures, reinforcing its defence posture amid an evolving global security environment.
