Russia, Cuba Vow to Enhance Bilateral Ties

HAVANA: The Chairman of Russia’s Duma Vyacheslav Volodin has met with the President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and explored ways to enhance bilateral ties.

He conveyed warm greetings from the President of Russia Vladimir Putin to the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and the President of Cuba.

The Russian leader said ties between Moscow and Havana are developing dynamically, and ‘we should express gratitude to you and our President Vladimir Putin for that.’

Vyacheslav Volodin during the meeting said both countries are trying to ensure that the parliamentary dimension is maximally used and relevant decisions are made.

The Chairman of the State Duma said both countries are interested in implementing the projects in the field of tourism, as well as the supply of resources. He noted Russia was the second in terms of number of tourists who visit Cuba.

“Your visit confirms the remarkable state of political and economic ties between our countries. We continue to exchange bilateral delegations at the highest level,” said Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

The President of Cuba during the meeting said ongoing efforts are underway to strengthen relations between the parliaments of the two countries. He thanked Russia for supporting Cuba and the efforts Moscow made to stop the trade, economic and financial blockade of the US.
