MOSCOW: Russia forces repelled Ukrainian naval drones on its warships in the Black Sea, its defence ministry said on Thursday, the latest in a series of attacks on its fleet.
Attacks from both sides in the Black Sea took a turn after Russia backed out from the grain agreement that allowed Ukrainian grain to be safely exported through the transit hub.
Air defence forces shot down a Ukrainian drone over Moscow on Friday, Russian officials said, in the latest wave of airstrikes targeting the capital.
The Russian Defence Ministry said Ukraine launched the attack around 04:00 (01:00 GMT) “using a drone against objects located in Moscow and the Moscow region.”
The UAV, after getting hit by air defence, changed its course and fell on a building in the Krasnopresnenskaya embankment area of Moscow, the ministry said on a social media site Telegram.
Moscow’s mayor said emergency services were on the scene, but initial reports said there were no casualties.
“The wreckage of the drone fell on a building in Expo Center without causing significant damage,” said Sergey Sobyanin.
Russia foiled Ukrainian naval drones attacking its warships in the Black Sea, its defence ministry said on Thursday, the latest in a series of attacks on its ships in the flashpoint waterway.
“Today at 22:55 (1955 GMT), the Ukraine military unit made an ineffective attempt to attack Russian ships with an unmanned naval boat,” the ministry said in a statement.
“The Russian ships were doing patrolling in the southwestern part of the Black Sea, 147 miles southwest of Sevastopol.”
The ministry said the drone was destroyed by patrol boats Pytlivyi and Vasiliy Bykov before it could reach its target.
