MOSCOW: Russia said on Thursday that it had captured another village in east Ukraine, around ten kilometres (6 miles) from the city of Avdiivka, which fell to Russian troops last month.
It was the second village west of Avdiivka that Russia claimed to have seized this week, with Moscow seeing some recent successes on the battlefield as Ukraine suffers from a shortage of ammunition.
Russia’s defence ministry said in its daily briefing that its troops liberated the village of Tonenke.
Moscow seized Avdiivka in February after one of the bloodiest battles in the 2-year conflict, which Russia touted as a turning point.
Russia’s Latest Attack
The claim came as Moscow launched a large-scale missile attack on Kyiv early Thursday, with Ukraine saying Russia had sent more than thirty missiles at its capital, AFP reported.
Moscow said it had used high-precision weapons such as hypersonic Kinzhal missiles on “command centres” of the troops of Ukraine.
The attack came after President Vladimir Putin pledged that Russia would respond to an escalation in Ukrainian strikes on its border regions.
