MOSCOW: Russia’s defence ministry has claimed it had captured the town of Krasnogorivka in eastern Ukraine and three villages in different areas of the Donetsk region.
The ministry stated it had “liberated” the town, which had a population before the conflict of 16,000 and is located in the region where the front line has remained comparatively unchanged for weeks. Russia claims to have taken control of various of towns and villages in recent months in the region, as Ukraine’s forces find themselves outgunned and outmanned across the front line.
Authorities in Russia’s Tula region also reported that a drone wreckage landed on a fuel and energy facility, though it did not affect the facility’s “technological process.” The Tula region, situated just south of Moscow, has been a target in the current conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

This incident is part of a series of drone attacks carried out by Ukraine since early September, primarily aimed at Russian energy and power infrastructure, local media reported. The attacks come at a significant moment in the war.
Details on the extent of damage from these Ukrainian drone strikes are often sparse, as Russian officials typically avoid fully disclosing the impact. Ukraine has been lobbying the United States for permission to use more powerful Western-supplied weapons to strike deeper within Russian territory. Kyiv aims to weaken Moscow’s ability to sustain its military operations, which began with the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. As the conflict continues, both nations seem determined to ramp up their military tactics, heightening the risk of further escalation.
Earlier on Sunday, Ukraine and Russia have blamed each other of overnight airstrikes on their border regions, with Ukrainian officials saying that two people were killed and four were injured in the Sumy region, and Russia claiming three civilians sustained injuries in Belgorod.
The military administration of the northeastern Ukrainian region said two children were among those wounded in Sumy. It further stated that several residential houses and vehicles were damaged.
