MOSCOW: Russian officials said Thursday it had destroyed as many as 19 Ukrainian drones overnight above Crimea and the surrounding Black Sea.
Russia Claims 19 Ukrainian Drones Destroyed Over Crimea
Russia’s Ministry of Defence said in a statement via social media that a Ukrainian tried to attack with drones had been “thwarted”. It claimed that three drones had also been downed in another place in separate assaults.
The Ministry of Defence said that Russia’s air defence systems destroyed nineteen Ukrainian drones over the Black Sea and Crimea, and one each over the areas of Belgorod, Kursk, and Oryol regions.
Earlier, Russia said on Wednesday that it had destroyed 4 Ukrainian drones overnight in two western regions. In a statement, the Russian Ministry of Defence said that the drones were destroyed over the Oryol region and Belgorod region. Since Kyiv launched its counter-offensive in June, Moscow has weathered waves of drone assaults that have infrequently damaged several buildings, including in the capital. However, Russian authorities have downplayed their significance.
