MOSCOW: Russia on Wednesday said it has banned 92 US nationals from entering its territory, listing officials and journalists from the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Washington Post.

The foreign ministry of Russia said it was responding to Washington’s recent decision to impose sanctions against Russians. It is not immediately clear whether all those Russia added to its blacklist held US citizenship.

The Wall Street Journal’s editor-in-chief Emma Tucker and her deputy Charles Forelle are among the 92. The Journal’s Ukraine bureau chief James Marson was also included in the list.

Several US Treasury officials were also included as were military commanders from the United States Space Force.

“In response to the Russophobic course pursued by (US President Joe) Biden’s administration… entry to the Russian Federation is permanently closed for 92 US citizens,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.

“We remind the current US authorities of the inevitability of punishment for hostile actions,” it said.

The announcement comes after a week ago Washington placed sweeping new sanctions against almost 400 individuals and companies linked to Russia’s war in Ukraine.

US President Biden also announced a new round of military assistance for Kyiv last week, including air defence missiles and ammunition for frontline soldiers.
