ISLAMABAD: Russia ally Algeria is set to reopen its embassy in Kyiv which has been shut since Russia’s launched its special operation in Ukraine more than a year ago, the foreign ministry said on Sunday.
An official statement of the ministry disclosed that the move was within the framework of safeguarding the Algerian state’s interests. It added that the embassy would reopen soon, however, refrained from providing details.

It added that a charge d’affaires would run the mission when it reopens, according to an AFP report.
On Friday, during a televised broadcast, Algeria’s President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced the planned reopening while acknowledging Algeria’s longstanding ties with Russia.
Algeria and Russia have robust trade links that saw exchanges between the two countries reach $3 billion in 2021.
The two countries also have military ties and are members of OPEC+, a group of oil producers led by Russia, as well as the Gas Exporting Countries Forum.
