Recent Russian airstrikes knocked out power in different parts of Ukraine
Kyiv: Ukraine says Russia has damaged buildings in the southeast and driven out management from several areas with new missile and air strikes as the West puts pressure on Russian oil prices to curb Moscow’s ability to finance its invasion.
The new port was set up for a few days and came on the day when the emergency power cuts would end, and the initial damage was being repaired. The attack has plunged parts of Ukraine into deep darkness, and the country’s temperature is below zero.
However, Kyiv said its air defenses prevented the damage. Explosions were also reported at two airports in Russia overnight, hundreds of kilometers from Ukraine. One of them, Engels Airport in the Saratov region, has bombers that are part of Russia’s nuclear war system.
The RIA news agency said that three people were killed when a plane exploded at Ryazan airport, 185 kilometers (115 miles) southeast of Moscow.
Saratov regional governor Roman Busargin reassured residents that they were safe after what he called news on social media of a ‘loud sound and fire’ at the Engels air station. “Law enforcement confirmed information about what happened at the military installation,” he said.

The Engels base, about 730 kilometers (455 miles) south of Moscow, is one of Russia’s air force’s two main air bases, with 60 to 70 aircraft. Previous mysterious explosions have destroyed weapons stores and fuel depots in Russian territory near Ukraine and shot down at least seven planes in Crimea, the Black Sea region that Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014.
President Vladimir Putin drove a Mercedes over a bridge connecting southern Russia with Crimea on Monday, less than two months after an explosion hit it. Kyiv has not commented on any bombings, saying only that such things are “karma” of the Russian invasion.
