PARIS: Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal has secured the signing of Ruben Neves, a prominent player from Portugal’s national team, on a three-year contract. The midfielder, previously with England’s Wolverhampton FC, finalized the deal during a signing ceremony held in Paris, as announced by Al-Hilal on Friday.
Neves’s contract will extend until the end of the 2026/2027 season, marking a significant move for the 26-year-old who joins the Saudi club after six successful seasons at Molineux.
Representing Al-Hilal at the signing ceremony was Fahad bin Nafel, the chairman of the board of directors of Al-Hilal Non-profit Foundation. While Neves may not be the highest-profile star to join the Saudi Professional League, his transfer carries significance as he is still in the prime of his career. Previously, it had mostly been players in the twilight of their careers who made moves to the SPL.
Ruben Neves a Team Player
Neves initially joined Wolverhampton FC from Porto in the summer of 2017. He quickly established himself as a key figure in the team, contributing significantly to their ascent from the Championship to the Europa League in just two seasons.
Notably, Neves’ exceptional goals, including a memorable strike against Derby County, and his commanding presence in midfield earned him the Player of the Season accolade from both supporters and teammates. His contributions were instrumental as Wolves clinched the Championship title and secured a spot in the Premier League, where they have remained ever since.
