RIYADH: Cristiano Ronaldo, the renowned international soccer star, expressed his belief that the Saudi Professional League, in which he currently plays, has the potential to become one of the top five leagues in the world.

Speaking to the Saudi Sports Company (SSC) channel, the official broadcaster of the Saudi Pro League, Ronaldo praised the league’s improving quality since his arrival earlier this year.

Ronaldo’s remarks followed his impressive performance on Tuesday, where he scored a remarkable winning goal, leading his team Al Nassr to a 3-2 victory over Al Shabab. The result delayed Al Ittihad’s Saudi Pro League title celebrations.

Despite Al Shabab initially taking a two-goal lead in the first half, Al Nassr made a spirited comeback with goals from Talisca and Abdulrahman Ghareeb. Ronaldo then secured the win with a brilliant solo strike, giving Al Nassr a 3-2 lead.

Ronaldo Says Saudi League Getting Better

In an interview with SSC, Ronaldo acknowledged the challenge of overcoming a two-goal deficit, but expressed satisfaction with the team’s victory, commending his squad members for their outstanding performance.

He stated, “In my opinion, the Saudi League is strong. We are much better, and the Saudi league is getting better. Step-by-step, I think this league will be among the top five leagues in the world.”

Ronaldo emphasized the need for time, investment in players, and infrastructure to further elevate the Saudi Pro League’s status. However, he displayed great confidence in the league’s potential, praising the country’s remarkable people and expressing his belief that the league will continue to progress.

It is worth noting that Ronaldo’s contract with Al Nassr is estimated to be valued at more than $220.16 million, according to some media reports.

Having previously played in Spain’s La Liga with Real Madrid, the English Premier League with Manchester United, and Italy’s Serie A with Juventus, Ronaldo’s positive outlook on the Saudi Pro League highlights the growing prominence and appeal of the competition.
