Romanian Envoy Niculaie Goia Dies in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD:  Romanian Ambassador to Pakistan Niculaie Goia on Saturday passed away, prompting condolences from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ambassador had completed his tenure in Pakistan but stayed in the South Asian country due to health issues. As per media reports, the officials of the Foreign Office are in touch with the embassy of Romania in Islamabad and also extended their complete support to the officials of Romania for the repatriation of the dead body of the envoy to Romania.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condoled the sad demise of Ambassador Nicolae Goia. In a Tweet, the Prime Minister said, “It is with great sadness that I received the news of the passing away of Nicolae Goia. The envoy will be remembered for his great services for Romania and for his active role in strengthening further Pakistan-Romania ties. I extend my most sincere condolences to the family of the Ambassador.”

Similarly, Pakistan’s Foreign Office Spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch expressed deep sorrow and condoled the death of the diplomat.

In a statement via her social media account, the spokesperson said, “Deeply saddened at the passing of Romanian envoy to Pakistan. He will be remembered for his contributions for enhancing Pakistan-Romania relations. Our prayers are with the bereaved family and people of Romania”.

The diplomatic community in Islamabad also expressed deep sorrow and grief over the sad demise of Ambassador Niculaie Goia. The Ambassador was very popular among the diplomatic community due to his professionalism. A few days ago, the Ambassador attended the Azerbaijan reception in Islamabad.

Ambassador Niculaie Goia did a lot of work to enhance bilateral ties between Pakistan and Romania while during his stay in Pakistan, the two sides inked a number of agreements.
